Johnny Smith is a Los Angeles based performer and visual artist who makes art on his iPhone.
While at first a source of amusement, and an occasional means of dawdling, creating images for Instagram has become a daily exercise in procrastination and determination.
Often silly, at times beautiful, possibly annoying, Smith finds images and incorporates them into his own photographs making a bold new photo collage. He wittingly injects his friends into his art, which is unveiled to them only when it pops up in their Instagram feed. Smith appropriates the world around him with a fanciful surrealism, and a penchant for the inappropriate, that inspires the viewer to smile, laugh out loud... or maybe roll their eyes.
All of Johnny's images are created for Instagram with photos and editing apps on his iPhone, proving that a mobile device can be a prolific form of artistic expression in this exciting new world of digital mediums.
