CLOSE UP

They say context is everything, and nowhere is it more true than close-up (macro) photography. If photography's basic reason for being (de etre) is to show the unseen and overlooked, then nowhere is there more photographic opportunity then getting down and dirty with a macro lens and documenting the flotsam and jetsam of the human experience. Ernst Haas did it with soda cans crushed on the street and peeling paint. Other photographers close in to shoot flowers and gems, nails and bullets, or raindrops and snowflakes. And of course there is the whole macabre world of bugs and bacteria. Whatever you shoot, whether the cornea of your lover's eye or the time worn face of Thomas Jefferson on a quarter, or the tiny gears inside your grandfathers watch, send it in to 1650 and let it ride, because this month we get all up into photography's grill with CLOSE UP Photography!

Sixty works were chosen from submitted photos to be included in the CLOSE UP group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.
