"I'll be your mirror.
Reflect what you are, in case you don't know"
~ Lou Reed

1650 Gallery is hosting the juried photography exhibition: I'LL BE YOUR MIRROR: THE PORTRAIT. Great portraitists such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Matthew Brady and Diane Arbus comprise one of the main pillars of the photographic arts. Capturing personality behind the persona in a portrait is both a challenge and an art, using technique, intuition and empathy. This month 1650 Gallery has put together a collection of portraits by contemporary photographers from around the globe.
Andrew Overtoom is a filmmaker and photographer working in Los Angeles. He specializes in medium and large format portraiture and analog/ digital /analog hybrid darkroom techniques. He also authors the Undead Neg blog. When he's not in the darkroom or his Echo Park Studio, you might find him at Nickelodeon studios hanging out with THIS GUY!
