TREES

Trees. They say dog is man's best friend, but perhaps it is the tree? We yearn to be near them; they hold a special place in the heart. Givers of shelter and sustenance, they feed our bodies and our souls. They inspire through beauty, whether the flowers of an orchard, a mountain-side of birch, or a single old oak or spindly sapling. Trees provide community and companionship; we live and love in their shadow. Home to bird and bug, man and beast alike; the tree asks nothing in return but a place to spread it's branches in the sun and a patch of earth to put down roots. It won't come when you call, but it's dogged permanence in spite of the wild twists and turns of our own peripatetic lives is what charms us so. So giving is the tree, it synthesizes the very oxygen we breathe; a dandy bit of magic indeed!

So this month at 1650 turned over a new leaf and gave props to the magical world of TREES. Without whom, we would literally be nothing.

TREES

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

- Joyce Kilmer
